Kicking off the Annual Fund

The Annual Fund has officially begun! By now you should have received the Annual Fund envelope in your mailbox with all the details. You can also learn more about it on our updated donation page, and even donate online with a credit card or PayPal. We're looking forward to continuing to build this wonderful community together, supporting our students in their journey as learners.

Come to the PTSA General Meeting

The next PTSA general meeting is on Tuesday, November 28. Agenda items include a vote on the budget for the school year. Also, Principal Oatis will be holding Meany's first "Chats with Chanda" half an hour before the meeting, at 6:00 pm — this is a great opportunity to hear school updates from her and ask questions. Then the PTSA general meeting will start at 6:30 pm. Both events are in the Meany library.

Gear up for the garden work party

Join us on Saturday November 18 for the garden work party at Meany Middle school. Everyone is welcome, kids too! Kids with community service requirements can log some time for participating. We'll be weeding, mulching, and prettying up the campus from 9am – 12pm rain or shine. Seattle Public Schools will be providing tools, materials, and even gloves, so just bring yourselves and weather-appropriate clothing. Sign up here.

Special Education parent group

Calling all Special Education parents, friends, and allies: our next meeting is coming up soon, on November 16 at 6:45 pm in the Meany Cafe. We'll enjoy some pizza, hear from some of the Special Education staff, and continue to talk about the joys and challenges involved in raising special kids — and how to foster inclusivity in our diverse school culture. Please contact Lori Hiltz to RSVP or with any questions.

Race and Equity Team meeting

We warmly invite you to come to our first Meany Race and Equity Team meeting on Thursday, November 16 at 4:30 pm. We are parents and teachers dedicated to eliminating opportunity gaps and creating a place where all Meany students can thrive. In our first meeting we will discuss equity at Meany, talk about our priorities and vision, and plan our first action steps. Depending on RSVPs we will meet in the conference room next to the office or the Library. Email John Benner to RSVP.
