Meany PTSA Newsletter 10/19/2018

Thanks for your support!
Meany sure is a busy place with lots going on. We rely so much on volunteers for many of our clubs and events and would love to see some new volunteer faces! We would like to remind families to follow the Meany PTSA webpage and Meany PTSA Facebook page to get the best information about what is going on at Meany and how to support the school. See below for an opportunity to help out on Picture Day (next Thursday), plus there will soon be opportunities to volunteer on a regular basis during the school day. Your involvement is very much appreciated!

Picture Day is Thursday, October 25th
Student photos will be taken at school on Thursday, October 25th. Picture order forms were sent home with students. If you didn't receive a form, have your student pick one up in the office. Pictures can be ordered online with a credit card or Paypal at (enter Picture Day ID: LS118105Q0), or you can fill out the order form and return it to school on Picture Day with your payment by cash, check or money order.

Picture Day Volunteers Needed
Can you spare a couple hours to help out at Picture Day on Thursday, October 25th? We need 8 volunteers who can work in 2-hour shifts between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.  Email to sign up.

Race & Equity Team Meeting
The Meany Race & Equity Team is working to advocate for and better support students of color at Meany and in the district. We are currently learning about the application process to join the district's group of Race & Equity teams, which will connect us to other parent groups who are working towards similar goals. The next meeting will be on Monday, 10/22, 6:30-7:30 pm in the library. We will be following up on our plan to establish a student-led race and equity team. Questions? Contact John Benner (8th grader Maceo's dad)

Meany's  "International Food & Gift Marketplace” is really starting to come together! This event will be an opportunity to celebrate our diverse community in and outside of Meany Middle School.

  • We already have some amazing vendors signed up who will offer items such as: jewelry, cosmetics, hand knit hats/gloves/scarves, sweet potato pies, macarons, Ethiopian food, handmade soaps, art prints, sweet confections and other baked goods, BBQ sauce, Patty Pan Grill, printed t-shirts, washi tape, pallet coaster sets, body products, handmade dolls, and other handmade accessories. The deadline for vendor registration is November 5th, so please get the word out!  There is a $50 table fee which benefits Meany Arts and Education programs, but vendors will keep all profits made at their table during the event.

Ski Bus at Meany
We are gearing up for the second year of the Friends of Meany Ski Bus. While we are still waiting for final confirmation from WebbSki regarding specific dates and costs, we do know a few details. The ski bus will run on Friday nights for six weeks from early January until mid-February. The bus leaves immediately after school and returns to Meany between 10:30 - 11:00 pm. Students have the choice whether to sign up for lessons or have the entire time to ski on their own. Those that do sign up for lessons will also have some free time. All grade levels are welcome to participate. It’s important to know that while there are chaperones on the bus, students will need to be able to function independently on the mountain. It's also important to know that the ski bus is not a Meany or Seattle Public School sanctioned event. We will need 2-3 adults to volunteer as chaperones for each night. Please contact Rusty Hibbert ( or John Sullivan ( if you have questions or are interested in volunteering.
