Something For Everyone
The excitement is building…Meany's International Food & Gift Marketplace is a week from Saturday! Invites were sent home with students yesterday (check those backpacks). Meany staff and parent volunteers also handed out invites to neighbors and businesses around the school, and the event has been publicized via social media and at our feeder schools. Here is an electronic version of the invite to share with family and friends. This event is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, so please spread the word! Please contact Brenda Nelson at with any questions.

Meany Middle School Cafeteria & Hallway

Here are some of the amazing items that will be available at the Marketplace event! Food items: Ethiopian food, Hawaiian teriyaki chicken & vegetable rice bowls, vegetable rice bowls (for non-meat eaters), Jamaican beef & chicken patties, warm tamales, frozen tamales, chocolate, sweet potato pies, assorted fermented sweetened green or black tea drinks from Kombucha Yum, select spice blends, Meany students home baked macarons, fine candies, peanut brittle, sandy candy interactive straws, soda pop, La Croix seltzers, free popcorn at the Meany PTSA table. Gift/Craft items: Handcrafted fine hammered jewelry (silver and dentalium shell), rings and necklaces, handmade jewelry, Seahawk stuffies, lap blankets, pot holders, dog scarfs, hand-dyed/hand-spun yarn, knitted hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, handcrafted dolls, Afro Cabiric items (flags, dolls, pictures, backpacks, elephants, jewelry), books/gifts/games from ADA’S Technical Books & Café, art items, prints, t-shirts, handmade clothing, Meany spirit wear (sweatshirts, tees & accessories), heart/love themed greeting cards, stretched canvas art, homemade essential oil products, bath salts, body lotion, handmade soaps, lip balm, dry nail polish strips, herbal health and wellness, gifts, and aromatherapy, Seattle Black Panther (party t-shirts, sweatshirts & bags), handmade accessories, miscellaneous décor items, washi tape, pallet coasters sets, jute bags, and more!

Opportunity for Community Building - More Volunteers Needed 

Please join Meany staff, students and family members in volunteering at our upcoming Marketplace event on Saturday, November 17th. We need lots of volunteers to help with set-up the day before and morning of the event, selling food/concessions, greeters/runners, clean-up, etc. Student volunteers are welcome too! Here is a link to sign up or contact our Meany Volunteer Coordinator, Meghan Dort at

Annual Fund - Making Good Progress
We have raised almost $10,000 toward our $50,000 goal - thank you for all your support so far! Let's keep this positive momentum going! We welcome donations of all amounts – $5, $20, $50, $100 – and we are striving for participation from 100% of Meany families. Girls and Boys Basketball 
It’s time to sign up for Meany Girls Basketball and Meany Boys Basketball! Students who are interested should pick up a packet in the Main Office. Note: Physical examination forms (good for 2 years) are REQUIRED for all athletes in order to try out. Signed packets must be returned to the Main Office by Wednesday, November 28. Meany Girls Basketball 

  • Practices will be on Tuesdays & Fridays after school from 4:00-5:45pm

  • Games will be on Saturdays at various locations

  • TRY OUTS will be on Friday, December 7 and Tuesday, December 11 from 4:00-5:45pm at Meany

  • Only coaches and players will be allowed to attend try outs and practices.

  • We will have two teams for Girls (Varsity & Junior Varsity)

Meany Boys Basketball 

  • Practices will be on Mondays & Thursdays after school from 4:00-5:45pm

  • Games will be on Saturdays at various locations

  • TRY OUTS will be on Thursday, December 6 and Monday, December 10 from 4:00-5:45pm at Meany

  • Only coaches and players will be allowed to attend try outs and practices.

  • There will be three teams: Varsity (7th & 8th graders), Junior Varsity (7th & 8th graders), 6th grade team (6th graders only)

Snacks for Teacher Conference Night

We hope you can help us feed our hardworking teachers and staff on Report Card Conference Night, Tuesday, November 20th. It's a LONG day for them and they have extended the time slots this year to reach more families. Let's show our appreciation by bringing in hearty/healthy homemade or store bought snacks/sandwiches/salads and, of course, treats. Here is a link to sign up:

Friends of Meany Ski Bus
(Fridays, January 12th - February 15th) 
Registration forms are available in the Main Office at Meany. You must complete the registration form and mail it to Webbski with a check by November 30th. Online registration is NOT available. Please contact Rusty Hibbert ( once you have registered so we can keep track of the number of students.

Meany Talent Show - Friday, Dec. 7 at 7:00 pm
It’s not too late to sign up to perform in the Meany Talent Show. Families will not want to miss this fun evening performance with a great variety of talented acts! Information about tickets for the event will be available soon. There may also be a daytime performance during school, just for students.

Open House and Tour Dates
Meany Middle School will be having an evening Open House and daytime tour for incoming families in January. Please help spread the word to your friends at Meany’s feeder schools — Leschi, Lowell, Madrona, McGilvra, Montlake, and Stevens.  

Open House - Monday, January 14, 6:30-8:00 pm
Daytime Tour - Tuesday, January 15, 9:30-11:00 am

In addition to the scheduled tours, prospective families are also welcome to attend our school events (music concerts, International Food & Gift Marketplace, Talent Show, etc.) in order to get a better sense of some of the great things that are happening at Meany. A Message from Meany’s Attendance Office

Please DO NOT reply to the automated email that comes to you when your student is tardy or absent. The automated message is from the District and Mrs. Washington has not been getting those messages. The IT department has been working on fixing this glitch in the system, but so far the issue has not been fixed. Instead, for now please contact Mrs. Washington directly. Thank you!

Support Meany's Sister School
Friends of Washington Middle School's Music Department is holding its annual Citrus Sale! Please help support their music program by buying a box or two of fruit. 
From now until Nov. 19, you can order truly spectacular oranges and grapefruits online. A 20-pound box is just $35. You can also donate a box to St. Mary's Food Bank.

Seattle Public Safety Survey
Community members are invited to visit to take part in the Seattle Public Safety Survey. The purpose of the survey is to solicit feedback from those who live and/or work in Seattle to increase public safety and security in your neighborhood. The survey is accessible through November 30th and is available in 11 different languages.  Please see the flyer for more details.
