Meany PTSA General Meeting - Thursday, May 23
Please join us at the last Meany PTSA general meeting of the school year, next Thursday, May 23rd at 7:00 pm in the library. Everyone is welcome!
If you haven’t made it to a PTSA meeting yet this year, this will be a great one to attend. We will present our proposed PTSA budget for next year and vote to approve the budget. We will also elect new PTSA board members for next year. Ms. Cruise-Roberson will also be joining us at the meeting to talk about the ways that she works with students at Meany and about a new screening/brief intervention program that she will be starting soon at our school for students who are 13 and older.
We are still looking to fill some key PTSA roles. There are many ways to get involved with varying levels of time commitment, and many positions can be shared. Here are some of the roles we are hoping to fill for next year:
Secretary (takes notes/minutes at PTSA meetings and sends out meeting reminders, etc.)
Co-Treasurer (help manage funds by depositing donations in the PTSA bank account and writing out checks for PTSA bills and teacher reimbursements)
Communications Chair (works with the Newsletter Editor and Website Editor to share news about school events, activities and other important information)
Events Chair/Co-Chair (works with an Events Committee to help organize PTSA driven school events like the Meany Art Festival, event showcasing student artwork)
6th Grade BLT Rep (incoming parent - part of Meany’s Building Leadership Team and also the point person for 6th grade parents to contact with questions about the school)
8th Grade BLT Rep (part of Meany’s Building Leadership Team and also the point person for 8th grade parents to contact with questions about the school)
Classroom Volunteer Coordinator (works to connect classroom volunteers who have completed the SPS volunteer training with teachers who are requesting help in the classroom)
Equity & Outreach Chair/Co-Chair (PTSA board liaison for the Meany Race & Equity Team which meets monthly or bi-monthly)
Special Ed Parent Liaison (organizes monthly meetings for Special Ed parents at Meany)
Questions? Please contact Jen Emrich, Meany PTSA Co-President.
Thank You For Supporting the Meany Annual Fund
Since September, thanks to the collective generosity of the Meany Community - aka, you! - the annual fund has raised $39,041. This number is higher than the total received last year, and includes more than $3,000 in employer matching funds.
Thank you to everyone who gave! Your contributions have made great things happen for your student and for Meany: classroom grants for teachers, the school musical, drumline, teacher and staff appreciation, and more.
Most of all, and most important, your contribution to the annual fund is a direct investment in your child, your school, and your community – our community. We are grateful to you all! We are also grateful to the parents and volunteers who dedicate time, energy and expertise to help the Meany Community thrive.
If you would still like to give a gift, you can! You can always visit the PTSA website and make a gift online.
Thank you once again to all the contributors, all the volunteers, and to the dedicated staff. You are all essential elements to Meany’s success, and we appreciate you all!
Meany Art Festival - Friday, May 31
Meany Middle School families and friends, please join us at school on Friday evening, May 31st from 5:00-8:00 pm for the Meany Art Festival!
The PTSA is working with Meany’s Art teacher, Mr. Richardson, to put together this fun event at the end of the month which will showcase some amazing artwork produced by Meany students this year. Last year Meany held a similar event at Optimism Brewery (photos here), but this year we are excited to be able to hold the event at our school and have both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional artwork on display. Food and drinks will be available for purchase in the Meany Cafe during the event.
Our Supply of Snacks is Running Low
Mr. Fields (Meany’s Family Advocate) and Ms. Cruise-Roberson (Therapeutic Health Services) have requested donations of low sugar/healthy snacks to provide to our Meany students who may be experiencing hunger during the school day. They have requested items like, granola bars, fruit snacks, single serve crackers/pretzels, assorted chips, trail mix, low sugar drink boxes/pouches, and frozen breakfast sandwiches (we have space in the school freezer to store these).
Donations can be dropped off in the school office labeled "PTSA/Mr. Fields". Please contact Jen Emrich with any questions.
Thank you so much for your support!
Volunteer Grant Writer Needed - Courtyard Garden Project!
Did you know Meany has an incredible outdoor garden courtyard area that was not included in the school’s remodel and has not been revamped since 1960!?
Meany teachers, along with parent volunteer team Anna Davidson (7th grade) and Jennifer Guthrie (6th grade), have big visions of innovative outdoor educational space for all teachers and students to utilize for everything from gardening and outdoor installation art projects to environmental science opportunities, and are seeking a parent volunteer grant writer to help acquire one or several grants to help make this happen. We have secured initial funding to start the project and have the Landscape Architect plans drawn and approved by SPS and the school administration. We now need your help!
We are looking for a parent volunteer to help secure grant money for this very fundable project. Do you have writing skills? Are you passionate about outdoor education, gardening, and the arts? Are you looking for a way to help make Meany the most innovative school it can be? This position is an excellent flexible volunteer position that can be done from home and does not need to be an official PTSA Board position. No prior grant writing experience necessary.
Please join us in helping to create an incredible outdoor learning space which will benefit all students at Meany for years to come!
Order Your Meany Middle School Yearbook
Paper order forms are available in the main office, or you may order the yearbook online through your parent Source account with SchoolPay. Order now through June 15th for a discounted price of $20 per yearbook. After that date the cost goes up to $25.
Please turn in completed forms to the Main Office with either cash or a check made out to Meany Middle School.
Yearbooks will be distributed during the last week of school.
Please contact Ms. Marshall with any questions.

Grade Level Reps
Do you have a school related question or concern? In an effort to improve communication within the Meany school and family community this year, the PTSA has appointed a parent from each grade at the school to be a point person. Our three parent Grade Level Reps this year are also on Meany’s BLT (Building Leadership Team).
Please feel free to reach out to them with any questions or concerns and they will do their best to help find the answers that you need! Grade Level Reps will receive comments or questions and either provide or direct parents to answers or pass on concerns to school administrators.
6th Grade Rep: Sage McCotter
7th Grade Rep: Andy Jensen
8th Grade Rep: Jennifer Marquardt
