Music Auditions at Garfield High School

Here is some information about Band and Drumline auditions for incoming 9th graders (and current Garfield students) from the Garfield Marching Band Facebook page:

  • Garfield Band and Drumline Auditions for 2019-20 will be held Tuesday, 5/28 and Wednesday, 5/29 (come either day and put your name on the list).

  • Auditions will start at 3:45 pm in Room 217

  • Band auditions - include 1 min. prepared piece, scales, and sight reading.

  • Drumline auditions - include 1 min. prepared material on snare, tenors, bass, or cymbals, and sight reading.

  • Please direct any questions to Mr. Evans

Information about Orchestra auditions from the Friends of Garfield Orchestra website

  • All Freshman String players should enroll in Chamber Orchestra. No audition is required: this class is designed to welcome our Freshman string class to the program and to create the social and technical familiarity necessary for our orchestra family to grow in successive years.

  • Two of our ensembles, Concert Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra, meet as a Full Orchestra – including Winds, Brass, and Percussion in addition to Strings. In full orchestra literature, winds, brass, and percussion instruments are treated as soloists. As such, ALL Wind, Brass, and Percussion players must audition to be placed in these ensembles. Concert and Symphony Orchestras are open to Freshman Wind, Brass, and Percussion players by audition.

  • The audition dates are 5/20 and 5/21, starting at 4:00pm and going until 6:30pm. An audition guide and a link to sign up to audition is on the Friends of Garfield Orchestra website.

NOTE: No information is available yet about Jazz Band auditions. For more info, follow the Garfield High School Jazz Band Facebook page or check out the Garfield Jazz website.

Grade Level Reps

Do you have a school related question or concern? In an effort to improve communication within the Meany school and family community this year, the PTSA has appointed a parent from each grade at the school to be a point person. Our three parent Grade Level Reps this year are also on Meany’s BLT (Building Leadership Team).

Please feel free to reach out to them with any questions or concerns and they will do their best to help find the answers that you need! Grade Level Reps will receive comments or questions and either provide or direct parents to answers or pass on concerns to school administrators.
