The Lion King Jr. — on the Meany Middle School Stage
If you haven’t had a chance yet to see Meany Middle School's production, The Lion King Jr., the last two performances are this Friday, May 3rd (TONIGHT!) at 7:00 pm and on Saturday, May 4th at 2:00 pm.
Come out to support Meany’s Stage Club and bring your family and friends. The show is amazing! Admission is a suggested donation of only $5 and the show runs just under an hour. Don’t miss it!
Here is a note from the inside of the program from Mr. Finney, Director of the Meany Stage Club:
"Dear Parents, Guardians, Family & Friends,
Welcome to the Meany Middle School production of The Lion King Jr.! When I joined the Meany staff, I hoped to produce a school musical. I couldn’t have dreamed of the support the project would receive from the school’s administration, staff and PTSA. Ms. Webb and I started planning together in August, and she’s been a tireless co-director throughout the Talent Show and Musical. Several other staff members joined the production team, dividing the labor and increasing the creativity. Our wonderful tech crew worked without complaint on any task we threw their way, and of course our talented cast thrilled us each rehearsal with their energy and commitment. We hope you enjoy our show. I think you will.”
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week — May 6th - 10th
Help us celebrate our incredible Meany Middle School Teachers and Staff!
Please sign up to bring in food on Monday or Tuesday and consider writing a nice note to a Teacher or Staff member who has positively impacted your student. We are planning some special treats during the week for the teacher's lounge.
Schedule for the week:
MONDAY — MorningTreats/Baked Goods from families
TUESDAY — Staff Lunch provided by families
WEDNESDAY — Donated cookies from HELLO ROBIN (during the staff professional development meeting)
THURSDAY — Breakfast for the Teachers/Staff (provided by the Meany PTSA)
FRIDAY — Student "shout outs” (thank you notes) + homemade cookies
"We collected shout outs today during lunch from our students to say thank you to our hardworking teachers and staff in prep for next week. We got 600 notes during one session at lunch from our middle school students! Granted, there was a small candy incentive, but the kindness and love in these notes is real. We are a large and diverse community and many kids feel seen and known at Meany. It was such a pleasure to spend time in the school today and see many smiling faces at Meany.”
Join Meany's ASB Student Leadership Team for Next Year
Meany Mountain Lions ~ Do you like to come up with a plan? Do friends come to you for advice? Do you like to solve problems? Do you consider yourself a leader? Maybe you want to work on some leadership skills. If that is you, then join the Associated Student Body, or ASB for short.
The ASB helps plan events that build community and make everyone feel welcomed! You can plan a couple, or join in on all of them!
Activities that you get to help plan and create include community service projects, assemblies, graduation, fundraising opportunities, dances, the Meany Market, field trips, and Spirit Week.
**Note: Only current 6th and 7th grade students may apply. We encourage current 8th grade students to ask their future high school for any leadership class opportunities.

Integrated Schools Presents: Brown vs. Board Turns 64: Seattle's School Segregation Story
Sixty-five years ago the US Supreme Court decided Brown vs Board of Education which held that racially separate schools were "inherently unequal".
Join Integrated Schools for a panel discussion about school segregation in Seattle over the past 65 years. We'll look backwards at what worked and what didn't, and look forward to how we can disrupt segregation now. After the panel, we will have breakout sessions that dive into specific actions we can take in our schools, working towards true community- and equity-driven integration.
Thursday, May 16
Garfield High School
Panel: 6:00-7:15 pm
Breakout Sessions: 7:15-8:30 pm
Nancie Beady (Professor and Chair of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Washington)
Stephan Blanford (Former Seattle School Board Director and Executive in Residence, Seattle Foundation)
Brent Jones (Chief Equity, Partnerships and Engagement Officer, Seattle Public Schools)
Grade Level Reps
Do you have a school related question or concern? In an effort to improve communication within the Meany school and family community this year, the PTSA has appointed a parent from each grade at the school to be a point person. Our three parent Grade Level Reps this year are also on Meany’s BLT (Building Leadership Team).
Please feel free to reach out to them with any questions or concerns and they will do their best to help find the answers that you need! Grade Level Reps will receive comments or questions and either provide or direct parents to answers or pass on concerns to school administrators.
