Welcome Back to School!
We hope that your school year is off to a wonderful start and look forward to an exciting and engaging year.
The Meany PTSA sends out this newsletter every Friday packed full of useful information about upcoming school events, details about after school clubs and activities, reminders about school happenings, and also information about opportunities to help support our teachers, staff, and students.
Here are some other ways that you can learn important information about our school:
Principal Oatis will send out her own all-school announcements and important reminders via phone and email using the district's messaging system, SchoolMessenger (also on Fridays). You can manage your preferences of how to receive the SchoolMessenger messages here.
Visit the Meany Middle School website to view the school calendar and see district and school news. There are also many resources there such as the student handbook, information about how to access The Source and Schoology (online tools to support student learning), school athletics, and school activities and clubs.
Visit the Meany PTSA website to learn about the many ways you can get involved in supporting our school community.
Follow the Meany PTSA Facebook page.
First Week Packets
Packets with important school forms were sent home with students this week. If you didn’t receive a packet, please have your student stop by the main office to pick one up. Completed forms are due back to the office as soon as possible.
Students can stop by the main office to pick up a Schedule Change Request Form if they are interested in making an adjustment to their schedule. Please keep in mind that there is NO guarantee that a request will be granted. The request form will be returned to them as either approved or denied. Students will be notified of the decision as soon as possible.
You may have noticed that some classes (particularly electives) are very full right now. This may change in the next couple of weeks as student enrollment numbers get solidified, and some student schedules may need to change in order to balance out the numbers. The school appreciates your patience.
Meany PTSA General Meeting
Please join us on Tuesday, September 24th from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Meany library for the first PTSA general meeting of the school year. Everyone is welcome! Come learn about some of the fun things we are planning for this year, meet some of the Meany staff, and connect with other Meany Middle School parents.
Open Positions on the Meany PTSA Board
We are still looking to fill a few positions on the PTSA board:
Co-Treasurer (works with our existing Treasurer to keep track of incoming and outgoing funds; approx. 1 hour per week)
Communication Chair (newsletter & website)
Building Leadership Team (BLT) Rep (8th Grade Parent Rep; 1-hour meeting twice monthly right after school)
Membership Chair (minimal time commitment; mostly data entry; most of the work in the fall)
Special Ed Parent Liaison (organizes monthly meetings for parents of students with a 504 or IEP)
If you are interested in getting involved with the Meany PTSA, we encourage you to attend the PTSA board meeting next week on Tuesday, September 10th at 6:30 pm in the Meany library. If being on the board is more than you'd like to commit to, there are also lots of opportunities to help out on various PTSA committees.
Please contact us to learn more.
Information will be coming soon about fall sports at Meany – Girls Soccer and Co-ed Ultimate Frisbee.
Sign-up packets will be available for students to pick up in the main office sometime in the next couple of weeks (students should listen for details in the morning announcements at school).
IMPORTANT: To be eligible to play on any of the teams, students must have an Athletic Registration Form and a Physical Form signed by a doctor on file at Meany before tryouts. These forms will be included in the sign-up packets. If you have any questions, please contact the Meany Athletic Director, Gus Montgomery.
SAVE THE DATE! Please join us at school for Curriculum Night on Tuesday, Oct. 1st at 7:00 pm (with pizza and refreshments beforehand provided by the PTSA). This is a PARENT-ONLY event. More details coming soon!
Grade Level Reps
Do you have a school related question or concern?
In an effort to enhance communication within the Meany school and family community this year, the PTSA will select a parent from each grade at the school to be a point person. Our three parent Grade Level Reps will also be on Meany’s BLT (Building Leadership Team).
You will be able to reach out to them with any questions or concerns and they will do their best to help find the answers that you need! Grade Level Reps will receive comments or questions and either provide or direct parents to answers or pass on concerns to school administrators.
We will announce the Grade Level Reps soon, but in the mean time please feel free to direct your questions to the Meany PTSA via this email address: email@example.com.
Note: We are still looking for an 8th grade parent rep, so let us know if you are interested in that role!
