Meany Middle School is a vibrant public school serving the diverse communities of mid-central Seattle.

Our students, staff, families, and neighbors work together to ensure that each child develops the knowledge, skills, and values needed to thrive personally and contribute positively to the world. Meany is a student-centered school that helps young people build confidence and independence through the important transition from elementary school to high school.

As a neighborhood school the majority of our students live in the area we serve – 92% of our student body lives in the Meany attendance area.

Student Body

The smallest neighborhood middle school in Seattle Public Schools, serving about 500 students.

  • Most students come from Leschi, Lowell, Madrona, McGilvra, Montlake, and Stevens elementary schools.

  • The majority continue on to Garfield High School.

Staff

55 staff members, including 23 certified teachers, two counselors, and a full-time nurse.

  • Our entire staff is dedicated to supporting student learning as well as physical, emotional, and mental health.

Diversity

  • Our student body reflects the rich diversity of our community: roughly one-third white, one-third Black, and one-third multiracial, Hispanic, or Asian.

  • Our staff is also diverse — most students see someone who looks like them in the classroom or office.

Special Programs

  • Meany hosts four special education programs: Access, Focus, Social/Emotional, and Distinct.

  • About 1 in 5 students has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or 504 plan.

  • Students with IEPs have a case manager, and students with 504s are supported by the 504 Coordinator or a counselor.

On-Site Health Center

The Meany Health Center, operated by Country Doctor Community Health Centers, opened in November 2019.

  • Provides free, comprehensive medical and behavioral health services for students.

  • Offers seasonal vaccines (including flu and COVID), and dental care such as cleanings and fillings.

  • Also available: sports physicals, routine check-ups, and mental health support.
